DELTA®-COOL 21 used in a floor application of the North House at the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, October 2009.The US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon is a biennial international competition and public event where 20 university teams from around the world compete to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house. The event is the US DOE’s premiere public event, and attracts thousands of visitors to the National Mall in Washington D.C.
Team North from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, designed and delivered North House, a compelling, marketable solar powered home that makes use of the latest in high-performance architecture, mobile communication technology, sustainable engineering, and design. The interior floor assembly employed DELTA®-COOL 21, a phase change material encased in flat profiles that were installed under the hardwood floor finish. The thermal mass of DELTA®-COOL 21 contributes to energy savings as well as to improved comfort inside the building by reducing the effect of ambient day/night temperature swings.
North House ranked #4 amongth the total of 20 contestants.
